Make & Bake
Next Session: July 24th
Come anytime between 11am - 3pm
Glass Orchids 28 N. Searsport Road, Frankfort
For more info call Nancy: 207-223-0070
This is a different kind of class
and one I've been planning on scheduling for a long time. Come on down
between the hours of 11am - 3pm and make a piece of jewelry or two. You
won't learn all about how fusing work or the details of working with
dichroic glass but what you will do is make some jewelry or accessories to take home!
How does it work? Well, you'll select what you want to make from a
'menu' and then I'll help you assemble the piece which I'll fire when
you're done. Since firing glass takes several hours you'll have to
either come back and pick it up or I can ship it to you. How long it
takes to make a piece really depends on you and how fast you work. Come
in anytime during the class and we'll get you started!
Menu prices will range from $18 and up.....
Come have some fun & Bring your friends!
~Nan
PS: Note, because this is a class where
you'll be working with glass please no children under 10 and wear closed
shoes and long pants vs. shorts. We cannot watch your children while we
help you so please don't bring children who will not be participating or
who will be unattended - I love kids but glass is sharp and kilns are
hot and there's lots of trouble to be gotten into at our place
<smile>....

Make your
own art glass and turn it into beautiful jewelry or accessories using
this amazing technique. In this class you will use tiny flower pots
filled with your selection of glass to create your own little patties of
glass. Because this is a time consuming process you will also learn
finishing techniques with some pre-made patties so that you have a
finished piece to take home. You will use molds and cold working
techniques to turn amazing one-of-a-kind glass patties into works of
art. This process has been adapted for use in small kilns so that it
is within reach of any home studio.
No prior experience necessary. This class is suitable for both the
New Fuser and those with more experience who want to learn this exciting
technique. |

Who is this woman, Nancy, who will be teaching us?
Nancy Tang began painting at age 12 and was educated as a painter, sculptor
and art educator back in the 1970's - 1980's. She moved into the computer
programming field for the next 18 years where she became a Vice
President for a major international bank, managing global systems and
programming teams. During that time she got married to another
programmer and eventually bought a house in the suburbs of NYC.
Nancy had always loved glass, beach glass, old bottles you name
it, she loved it. Nancy bought herself a little fusing kit as a Xmas
present. It was something to relieve stress and play with on the
off hours. But then one day Nancy and Greg had a beautiful little baby
girl and the world shifted upon it's axis. The American dream of a
corner office and 6 digit salary had been attained by both Greg and
Nancy but these paled in importance when they looked into the eyes of
that little baby girl. At some unknown point both their goals and dreams
had changed; almost without them realizing it was happening. Leaving
Arianna, their baby, at day care at 7am and picking her up at 7pm was
just not a good way to live. They decided Nancy would quit that big bank job and improve the quality of life of their little family. Now
being Type 'A', Nancy couldn't just let glass remain a hobby. She began
selling her work online and then began doing little local craft shows.
Her business grew. She hired the Mom next door to help out. She started
to do wholesale. Oh my!
Arianna was growing and would soon be in school. The local schools
had metal detectors at the entrance. Hmmmmmmmm.... this was not what
they wanted for their daughter. Greg and Nancy decided it was time to
leave the city. The little family fled NYC and bought an old farm
in Maine. They converted the dairy barn into a studio, office and
gallery. Greg intended to find a technology job in the local area but
the business grew and he came on board full time to help manage the
business side of things. Since they moved to Maine in 2002 their
business has grown at an amazing rate. Their work is now carried in
shops, galleries and museums across the US and beyond.
Nancy has been fusing for about 14 years and teaching for 12. She has taught many students who have gone on to become
professional glass artists in their own right and continues to mentor
people around the globe on a daily basis. She is proud to have helped
many realize their own dreams of supporting their families with the
skill of their hands. The dichroic glass jewelry class - soup to
nuts is designed to give people a leg up on an alternate or additional
income for their families and includes insight on marketing the
student's work.
We have taught students from NYC, Texas, Mexico and beyond. Come join
us.

*Deposit may be used for another class within 6 months.
** Unlike some teachers, we encourage you to make as many pieces in as
many colors as possible because this is how you learn. You are not
limited in how much dichroic glass you can use in a given class. Work at
your own pace and make what you can. All findings are included. |
