Directions to Frankfort from Portland, Maine
Assuming you already know how to get to I-95 in Portland:
***
Take I-95 NORTH towards AUGUSTA/BANGOR.
***
Take Exit 44 - Cold Brook Road (I think it says HAMPDEN/HERMON).
***
After exiting make a RIGHT TURN heading towards Hampden.
---
If you turned left and pass a huge truck-stop (Dysarts) you went the
wrong way.
*** Take Cold
Brook Road until you pass a traffic light (Route 202).
*** Proceed THROUGH
the LIGHT until you come to a "T" in the
road, this is Route 1A.
*** Make a RIGHT
TURN heading SOUTH on 1A towards
Hampden/Winterport/Frankfort.
--- Note: Posted speed
limits in Hampden are ~25-35mph and the town police are usually around.
*** Take 1A SOUTH
passing through Hampden, then Winterport and finally Frankfort.
--- Some landmarks in
order along the ways: Rite-Aid (left), Hampden Academy (left),
Mid-Coast
Marina (left), Winterport's Steamboat Gas Station (left)...
*** As you come into
Frankfort you will head down a hill then over a
dam/bridge.
*** Just
after the bridge, Route 1A will turn sharply to the left
and at that turn you
will
see LOGGIN ROAD turning to the RIGHT (or going straight).
*** Make the RIGHT/STRAIGHT-TURN
onto LOGGIN ROAD heading WEST.
--- If you pass Smith's
Country Store, a church, the Post Office you missed the turn.
--- If you get into
Prospect or see route 174 you missed the town completely. Turn around.
*** Take LOGGIN
ROAD about 2-3 miles. The valley will open
into farmland and you will
see a
field on the left and a house/garage w-wreath/barn on the left up a little
on a hill.
That's
us.
*** You will see a sign
for SWAN LAKE on the right indicating to turn LEFT.
*** Make that LEFT
onto NORTH SEARSPORT ROAD.
*** At the FIRST
DRIVEWAY make a left and you're here. The mailbox will say 28.
--- The driveway may
be a little slippery so be careful making the turn or coming up the hill.
